The metrological and visual match of samples is already commonplace if everything is done according to standard, i.e. ProcessStandard Offset (PSO) and ProcessStandard Digital (PSD). What is almost a matter of course when printing on paper is not the case with challenging textiles. This is due, among other things, to different conditions in colour measurement and viewing conditions. This challenge was tackled by the colour scientists Dr Hanno Hoffstadt (GMG Color) and Dr Andreas Kraushaar (Fogra) who met for a research day in Fogra's prepress laboratory. The measurement geometry was precisely recreated in the observation, whereby the concrete type of light and the spectral behaviour of the reference and proof prints were also taken into account. On an exemplary polyester print, the visual match could already be significantly improved. “Measure as you see and see as you measure” is subject to further research of the ongoing Fogra project TextileRGB.
