Inkjet printability

The certification is based on the FFPI leaflet FFPI-SP 08/2019 “Pharmaceutical board, specification” according to paragraph 2.6 “Subsequent codability” and especially to paragraph 2.6.2 “Inkjet using aqueous inks”. In addition, tests are carried out on the carboning behaviour.

Your benefit

The requirement for the readability of codes on packaging is becoming increasingly stringent, as the example of pharmaceutical packaging shows. Since February 9, 2019, every packaging of prescription drugs must be equipped with a unique and traceable DataMatrix code. Only after verification, e.g. by the pharmacy, may the medicine be dispensed to the end customer. The background to this is the fight against counterfeit medicines under the legal requirements of the EU Counterfeiting Protection Directive 2011/62/EU.

The certification of your substrates with all commercially available DoD inks shows your customers that labeling according to the FFPI guidelines can be realized without any problems. The certified substrate ink combinations are entered into the FograCert database and published. On the product itself you can indicate the approval in the form of a FograCert logo.

Your contact

I would be happy to advise you on all questions concerning labelling and the printability of substrates using the inkjet process and to provide you with an individual offer.

What you need to do

You would like to have your substrate ink combination certified (validity: 2 years) or renew an existing certification?

We need from you

  • a written order to carry out the certification,

  • Substrate: the amount depends on the number of inks to be certified in combination with your substrate. Normally, 10 DIN/A 4 sheets (or equivalent quantities in other formats) are required for an ink-substrate combination.

If you do not want certification, but a specific test regarding the printability of your substrate, we will be happy to help you as well. The type of substrate (paper, foils, metallized foils) is irrelevant. Our test stand allows the printing of any substrate and any form.

Our procedure

After receipt of the order by Fogra you will receive an order confirmation which contains all details of the test period, contact person and price. The processing period for certification is approx. 1 week.

The two schemes show how the tests (wipe test and carbonation test) are carried out for certification. If the wipe test passes the criterion (Verifier Grading of 2C after wiping), we issue a certificate and list your substrate ink combination in our FograCert database.
